Why Umhlanga

Lower Price Point

Umhlanga offers a lower cost of living,
cost of real estate and cost of salaries to
other BPO destinations such as
Johannesburg or Cape Town. This enables
a lower price point to other South African
destinations

Lower Attrition

Whilst international BPO activity has increased significantly in Durban and Umhlanga over the past decade, it still has fewer large BPOs or Domestic centres compared to Johannesburg or Cape Town. This supports better attrition rates and lower volumes of transient staff swapping centres and jobs.

Education

There are 9 universities located in Durban, which offer 200 study programs. In addition 120 Bachelor programs at 9 universities, 50 Master programs at 4 universities and 30 PhD programs at 3 universities. The largest being the Durban University of Technology (DUT) has circa 33,000 students.

Mature International BPO Experience

Umhlanga as a destination has offered international BPO services to the UK and Australia for over a decade, with the US market being serviced in the Umhlanga for 5+ years.

Neutrality of Accent

Whilst South African accent is very popular in western geographies in comparison to other low cost BPO destinations, the Umhlanga accent is the most neutral of these accents.

Robust International Connectivity

Umhlanga, as one of the destinations of the FIFA 2010 Football World Cup has first class infrastructure and connectivity to western markets. This infrastructure extends not only to businesses but also WFH programs when needed with Fibre and 5G rolled out locally within Umhlanga
